Côte d’Ivoire to host the 7th Africa Scout Jamboree in August 2016
The 7th Africa Scout Jamboree will be held from 1-10 August 2016 in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire. The event, organised by the Africa Scout Region and hosted by Fédération Ivoirienne du Scoutisme, is expected to attract over 6,000 participants from Africa and beyond. The theme for the jamboree is “Empowered Youth in an Emerging Africa”. It also has three sub themes: responsibility towards self, responsibility towards others and responsibility towards Africa.
Participants must be 12-17 years old at the time of the event. If you are 18 or older, you are invited to join the International Service Team (IST) (volunteer staff). The hosts have put together a solidarity fund in support of deserving Scouts who would otherwise not be able to participate. More details on this will be provided in due course.
The jamboree registration fee is USD 60 for countries in categories A and B and USD 120 for countries in categories C and D. Participating National Scout Organizations (NSO) are required to complete and return the attached contingent registration form. Each NSO/NSA may register only one delegation with one contingent leader who will be the immediate point of reference. Contingent leaders, participants and IST members intending to participate must register at an online registration system which will be activated by 31 March 2016.
The jamboree programme will include a wide range of activities and special events, which include the Africa Development Village, cultural activities, sub camp life, sports and hunts and free time for participants to interact among themselves and to discover more about Côte d’Ivoire.
Please note that all visitors to Côte d'Ivoire must obtain a visa from one of the Ivorian diplomatic missions unless they come from countries that are eligible for visa-exempt entry. International flights to Côte d’Ivoire arrive at the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Airport in Abidjan, which is about three hours’ drive to Yamoussoukro city. The city is also served by Yamoussoukro Airport, a regional airport.
