The specific objectives for the project are to: 1. Train and impart the Scouts with agricultural skills. 2. Contribute to attainment of food security for their families and the communities 3. Equip the Scouts with entrepreneurial skills so that they can use agriculture as an income generating activity 4. Encourage young people to have a more positive view of agriculture through practical application of the skills in their own homes to grow crops. The project achieves the above objectives by: 1. Implementing a Scouting proficiency programme that disseminates agricultural skills, including the production and distribution of trainer and participant manuals, proficiency badges and seeds. 2. Training and supporting of national project coordinators who are then able to coordinate the Training of Trainers and Scouts at the local levels 3. Supporting the implementation of the programme at national level 4. Monitoring the effectiveness of the project Project Stages Within this framework, FFL has a Scout progression through proficiency programme is organised in 3 stages and on completion of each stage, the Scout receives a proficiency badge. The programme includes: 1. Starter Stage -- on completion of which the Scout is expected to successfully raise a single vegetable/crop species, 2. Silver Stage -- on completion of which the Scout is expected to raise more than species of vegetables/crop to harvesting and 3. Gold Stage -- the Scout is equipped with entrepreneurship skills such as making a simple business plan and keeping records in order to turn the farming into an income generating activity. Since 2013, the project has been introduced to Rover Patrols in Burkina Faso, South Sudan, Malawi and Ethiopia. The project has been implemented/currently being implemented in 11 countries in Africa namely: Malawi, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Lesotho, Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Niger, Benin, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania and Togo
