World Scout Parliamentary Union President makes new friends at the Jamboree

3. Agustus 2007 - 2:00

Taking advantage of the wonderful weather outside, the president of the World Scout Parliamentary Union (WSPU), Mr. Abdourahmane Sow responded to the invitation of the Secretary General of World Scouting, Dr. Eduardo Missoni and visited the Jamboree which accommodates more than 40,000 people.

In the Scouting spirit, he declared he came to the Jamboree today to meet old friends and make new ones. “I enjoyed very much the visit to the Global Development Village and the World Scout Centre because of all the activities and projects presented there.”

He appreciated that this event is a great opportunity to see international friendship and cooperation between Scouts.

During the visit, Mr. Sow stressed upon the importance of having members of Parliaments to support Scouting in its mission of creating a better world: “We need to have laws or other legislative initiatives designed to contribute to the education of young people. WSPU can give Scouting the external help it needs to carry on its projects.”

Speaking about the future plans of WSPU, he declared: “In the nearby future, WSPU hopes to continue with its development so that we have representatives in every National Parliament.”

The World Scout Parliamentary Union is an international organisation that unites the National Scout Parliamentary Associations which exist in almost 100 countries worldwide and their members are all Members of national Parliaments, Deputies or Senators. Its aim is to strengthen National Scout Organisations and World Scouting through the influence of parliamentarians who believe that Scouting is an effective educational method.
