Malaysian Scouts interact with fellow Scouts across the World
Today, over 300 Scouts visited the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) JOTA-JOTI station in Kuala Lumpur. Held at a primary school and run by Malaysian Scout leaders and Rover Scouts, the station was buzzing with activities since the early morning. It was an engaging experience, especially for those taking part in JOTA-JOTI for the first time. WOSM Secretary General, Ahmad Alhendawi and World JOTA-JOTI Coordinator, Richard Middelkoop joined in the activities and enjoyed chatting with Scouts.
Ruo Xian said
“This is my first JOTA-JOTI this year and I’ve been in Scouting for about six years. Today I’ve learnt there is so many other things you can do on the internet. This is probably my first time connecting with people overseas that I don’t know. Normally I would use the internet to speak with my friends but this has been good to make more friends.”
Muhammad said
“This is also my first JOTA-JOTI and already I have done two radio transmissions and spoken to people from the United Kingdom and Malaysia. I’ve also met some new people here today.”
The excitement is also shared by nearly 500 Scouts who are taking part in a Scout Camp, less than 10km away. An estimated 11,000 Scouts throughout Malaysia will participate in the 60th Jamboree On The Air and 21st Jamboree On The Internet at 45 different camps and activity centres.
Whilst the biggest activity of the weekend is communicating with other Scouts from all over the World via the radio and internet, the participants can also look forward to taking part in fun communication games, building electronic kits and many other activities.

“I’ve already done two activities and my favourite is communicating with others from different Countries using the radio. You cannot see their face when you speak to them which is a little bit weird and you don’t know who is there!”
These Scouts are joining around one and a half million other young people in more than 100 countries who signed up for a weekend of fun and connecting with each other through technology.
