Enhancing Capacity of Lusophone NSOs in Africa to Deliver Better Scouting

4 October 2019, Nairobi: Scout Leaders from the National Scout Organisations (NSOs) of Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, and Sao Tome and Principe are undergoing a four-day Capacity Strengthening workshop that aims to equip them with the relevant skills and competencies in Youth Programme development and management, Adults in Scouting cycle management and good governance. This will enable them to support the delivery of quality Scouting in their NSOs to support the movement’s growth ambitions.

In a region where English and French are the predominant official languages, the need to provide more dedicated support to these Portuguese-speaking NSOs has increasingly become necessary. Building competencies for youth programme and volunteer management, as well as strengthening establishment of relevant structures to support growth and development of quality Scouting are key elements of this support.

The workshop also seeks to enable the participants acquire an understanding of the Global Support Assessment Tool (GSAT) and be introduced to the process of self-assessment. Additionally, it creates for them a platform for enrichment through exchange by sharing their various experiences and best practices in the areas of good governance and Educational Methods in Scouting.

From the workshop, the NSOs will develop tailored action plans to address their identified needs. They will also receive further support from the World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre and WOSM Consultants in realizing the implementation of these action plans.
