We are the Table View Girl Guides, Cape Town, South Africa. Part of the De Grendal District along with Bothasig and Monte Vista as well as a proud member of WAGGGS. Our head and heart is Jenny; known to the girls as “Disa”. She takes care of our Guide hall and makes sure that we as guiders have what we need to do what we do best. Karin is an incredibly brave lady as she leads both our Brownie pack and our Girl Guide company. It takes a special person to be both “Brown owl” to our Brownies and “Khumba” to our Guides. I am Ira and I am new to Table View as well as to the movement. I feel as though I have finally found my place in the world as “ Mother Ted” to our Teddie Den and as “Sunbird” to the Brownies and Guides. After all, Karin needs all the help she can get.
Just to be clear as often our troops have different names across the world: The Teddie Den is our youngest members who range between the ages of 4 and a half to 7 years of age; they learn to care and share. Their motto: “Teddies always try”. Our brownies are between the ages of 7 to 10 years of age and lend a hand; “a Brownie thinks of others before herself” and the official Girl guides are between the ages of 10 and 14 years who are learning to “be prepared”. From there on in they become Rangers who are encouraged to “look wide”. We do not yet have a Ranger unit but it is our dream to start one as soon as our Guides come of age.
This will be our first year that we will be participating in the Jota/Joti challenge as Table View and not as part of Cape Pen. Which is the entire region we belong to. Very excited!
