Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia (PPM) has launched an impressive national promotional campaign for the 23rd Asia Pacific Regional Scout Conference scheduled for October 2009 with over 100 representatives led by District Scout Commissioners from all 17 states on 24th January 2009 held at the Kuala Lumpur International Youth Centre.

Malaysia's Minister of Youth Dato Sri Ismail Sabri led the function and said that he feels good to be in Scout uniform again, which reminds him of his cub scout days in school, and his becoming a scout. He assured full support of his ministry to the conference and invites all national Scout organizations to send sizable delegations and to enjoy Malaysian hospitality.

Chief Scout of Malaysia Dato Seri Dr. Haji Shafie, also attended the function, accompanied by National Chief Commissioner Dato Haji Kaharuddin, World Scout Committee member Eric Khoo, all Assistant chief commissioners of PPM, members of the Executive Committee, and representatives from key government offices and departments. Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed represented the Regional Scout Committee and the World Scout Bureau. Rovers and young people were active in the event and gave the minister a rousing welcome with scout yell.

Immediately after the launch, the Chief Scout presided the conference briefing where the PPM Host Organizing Committee (HOC) presented the details of the regional conference and its ancillary events - youth forum and leader trainers course. An open forum was organized answering questions from district commissioners and government representatives from the Prime Minister's secretariat, ministry of youth, ministry of education, information ministry, tourism department, immigration, foreign affairs and police department, among others.

On that same day, the third preparatory meeting of the conference host organizing committee was also held chaired by the newly appointed HOC Chairman, Mr Haji Zakran Abdul Manan, with over 20 key leaders attending. The newly appointed Youth Forum Director Mr Mohd Azlan bin Abd Jalil and Course Director for the Leader Training Course Haji Rahmat bin Jaufar were introduced and they took part in the discussions. Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed represented the Regional Scout Committee with Director S. Prassanna.

At the meeting, it was confirmed that the next preparatory meeting will be on on 24th April 2009 just preceding the Regional Scout Committee meeting which will be held from 25th to 26th April in Kuala Lumpur.
