Pathfinder Scouts Vietnam conducts National Youth Involvement Workshop, with launching of APR Youth Involvement Guidelines
As Scouting in the Asia-Pacific is slowly reopening to face-to-face activities, the Pathfinder Scouts Vietnam (PSV) recently held its National Youth Involvement Workshop. The three-day event aims to gather key Scout leaders from National Scout Organizations to look into the relevance of the World Scout Youth Involvement Policy in addressing the aspirations and needs of today’s young people.
A total of 46 Scouts and Scout Leaders from Vietnam and one from the Philippines participated in the Workshop organized by PSV from 5-8 May 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City. Asia-Pacific Regional Director, J. Rizal C. Pangilinan, graced the workshop while Gov. Dale Corvera, Asia-Pacific Scout Regional Chairman, addressed the workshop via Zoom.
“We strongly believe in youth engagement, so this triennium, the Regional Scout Committee appointed more young people to the different committees and task forces. We are happy to acknowledge that Pathfinder Scouts Vietnam is a frontrunner in this effort. We are aware of the strong youth presence in Vietnam and I ask you to continue doing so and set a good example for the Region”, said Gov. Corvera.
The objectives of this workshop are to: (1) explain what the World Scout Youth Involvement Policy is; (2) understand the importance of Youth Involvement Policy; (3) analyse and consider the implications of this policy to their NSOs; and, lastly (4) meet people with different expertise and share experiences on different aspects of Youth Involvement in Scouting.
A highlight of the event is the launch of the Asia-Pacific Youth Involvement Guidelines designed to support NSOs in revisiting and strengthening their Youth Involvement Policy, as a way of ensuring that the Scouting programme meets the needs and interest of today’s young people.
