First  Workshop on Spiritual Development in the Interamerican Region.

We had not had the opportunity to carry out an activity, be it face-to-face or virtual, on this topic. Thanks to the vision of Mauricio Veayra, our director of the Youth Programme at the Interamerica Support Centre, when we built the calendar for the 2021 activities he asked to include this workshop, which should be carried out virtually.

On Saturday we began as every adventure begins, with high expectations, but without clearly distinguishing what the territory would be like that the more than 140 participants from 25 National Scout Organizations would travel together, but with the firm conviction that we would enjoy the journey to the fullest, more than to reach the destination.

As a first step, we began with a meditation guided by an expert, the Buddhist nun WongMong So. Then came an interesting presentation by an authority on non-formal education, Dominique Bernard, who made us see the transversality of Spiritual Development in the Youth Programme. One by one the sessions were succeeded in which not only was it possible to obtain light on the various topics of Spiritual Development, which allowed to clarify doubts, but also to put into practice what they had learned in interesting and very interactive activities in which the teams Trainees shared their best ideas and built a collaborative product.

Sunday was the second day of the Workshop and it started again "on the right foot" with an interesting reflection led by Rubem Perlingeiro, where we discovered together how religions collide in the "golden rule". To close this first day experience, we sang to the rhythm of the prayer attributed to Francis of Assisi, and which due to its depth has been assimilated by different beliefs, even non-Christian ones. The famous prayer that begins: Make me an instrument of your peace ...

The sessions continued, we learned about the Dialogue for peace and the Scouts´ Own. By the end of the afternoon, despite several hours having passed, we were already nearing the end of the event. With the joy of having concluded this first experience, of having shared so many moments, of having listened to different points of view, and with the sadness of reaching the end and not continuing to enjoy more moments like this, we say goodbye with the desire to keep in touch and with the renewed strength to continue working in Creating a Better World.
