Scouts volunteer in Democratic General Election in Myanmar
The 2020 Democratic General Election of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held on 8 November nationwide and citizens of the country voted freely in favor of their candidates. Always ready to help, Scouts and Rovers across the nation actively involved in volunteering in different local poll stations.
In some regions of the country, to keep citizens safe while voting, local representatives of the Union Election Commission (UEC) requested Scout troops to assist in maintaining health protocols such as washing hands, face mask distribution, measuring body temperature, and maintaining the queues. In some rare cases, the UEC even asked Scouts to watch the ballot boxes together with UEC personnel to ensure security.
This is the first time in the country’s history that Scouts did volunteering work at a General Election.
Hlaing Kaung Khant, a Rover from Mandalay said "Volunteering in the General Election is one of the national duties of Scouts as part of their Scout promise ‘to help the country’. “
