WOSM Services supports strengthening the capacity of NSOs to deliver Scouting to more young people worldwide. It is currently composed of 13 services offered on a digital platform, related to core areas of Scouting, from Adults in Scouting to Good Governance. It offers are way to offer these capacity building exercises in a more structured, streamlined and consistent manner to NSOs.

Since its launch, WOSM services has had a positive response, with almost 289 requests thus far. This month, the Association of Scouts of Montenegro shares how WOSM services supported an important training session for new Scout unit leaders.

The Association of Scouts of Montenegro, in partnership with the Scout Organizations of Serbia and Slovenia are currently working on the “Bridge of Knowledge”, a collaborative project that supports the capacity building development of Scout leaders. One of the key elements of the project was training for newly appointed Scout unit leaders, which took place in February this year. A total of 39 participants from the Association of Scouts of Montenegro, the Scout Association of Serbia and the Scout Association of Macedonia attended this training.

As part of the training, a consultant was requested via WOSM Services for assistance with growth and capacity building for new leaders in the Movement. WOSM’s consultant successfully delivered an in-person session that focused on building the image of Scouting, and benefits of forming a Scout unit. Feedback from participants indicate that the session was a success, and touched on more intrinsic aspects of Scouting, such as its purpose, its vision and other aspects.

“I was expecting to receive information I needed to work on establishing a new unit at this training session. However, the session exceeded my expectations as besides just knowledge, I am now highly motivated to kickstart a new Scout unit,” said Teodora Despotovic from Sabac, Serbia.

Additionally, the consultant also assisted in co-facilitating other sessions during the training, such as sessions on understanding the Scout Method and working with adults in newly established Scout units.

Olja Fatic from Bar, Montenegro felt that the Scout Method session was delivered well especially for new leaders.

“As I am new in Scouting, the explanation of the eight elements of the Scout Method in particular was interesting and informative. I am now full of new ideas on working with children, and feel highly motivated to kickstart a new Scout unit,” she shared.

By requesting for support on growth aspects through WOSM Services, the Association of Scouts of Montenegro managed to acquire the assistance required through in-person consultation, delivered by a WOSM trained and approved consultant, who is a subject matter expert. The support not only assisted in the successful delivery of a training session, but also managed to inspire and motivate newly appointed Scout leaders, now ready to start their own units.
