THERE ARE CURRENTLY AROUND 5 MILLION OF ADULTS IN SCOUTING

Scouting would not have existed around the world without the millions of adults, the majority of them volunteers, who support the Movement by performing a wide range of roles or functions.

WHO ARE ADULTS IN SCOUTING

When referring to adults in Scouting, we have in mind those who:

  • design, develop, facilitate, or deliver programmes
  • work directly with adults in management, leadership, training, and support roles and functions
  • establish and operate organisational structures, delivering the necessary logistical, financial, and administrative support

SYSTEMATIC
APPROACH

RETENTION
AND GROWTH

NATIONAL SCOUT
ORGANIZATIONS RESPONSIBILITY

For that purpose, Adults in Scouting (AiS), a systematic approach to support adults, was developed. Its aim is to support NSOs to improve the effectiveness, commitment, and motivation of adult leadership.

By supporting adults, their will have better performance, deeper satisfaction, and serve longer. The impact of this is better programmes, delivered with the support of young people, which contribute to the growth of the Movement.

The responsibility of National Scout Organizations (NSOs) is to strengthen the implementation of all aspects of the AiS life cycle (including recruitment, training, and retention), in accordance with the World Adults in Scouting Policy.

ADULT LIFE CYCLE

The adult life cycle highlights all aspects of the management of adults in the Movement and includes recruiting the adults we need, supporting them in their performance and development, assisting them in making decisions for their future.

Click on each stage of the Life cycle and explore what is stage about, what should NSO do and why this stage is important for the adults.
