On 15th July 2011, in the middle of Stockholm at its busiest point, a full outdoor photo exhibition telling the story of the new Messengers of Peace programme has been revealed. The Honorary Chairman of the World Scout Foundation, HM The King of Sweden, has invited the exhibition to Stockholm to be shown during the 22nd World Scout Jamboree and in preparation of the official launch of this amazing programme in late September 2011.

The Messengers of Peace programme is a 10-year initiative by the 161 member countries of the World Scout Bureau to involve individual Scouts as well as the national Scout organizations from all six worldwide regions in peace-building activities.

Funded by a generous grant from the kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Messengers of Peace initiative has two approaches:

  1. National associations and federations as well as regional offices can apply for grants to fund activities in 5 areas: conflict dialogue training, support to young people in conflict zones, social entrepreneurship projects, capacity building and developing the network of Messengers of Peace.
  2. Individual Scouts from all parts of the world are being challenged to undertake projects involving their groups from school, religious organizations, social organizations or Scout units to make a significant difference within their community in areas of training in conflict resolution, intervention in conflict areas, inter-community or inter-ethnic communications and environment or community health interventions.

The programme is being piloted with the 39,000 Scouts and members of the International Service Team at the 22nd World Jamboree in Sweden, July 27-August 8, 2011.
