Scouting says no to hunger
Nearly one billion people around the world go hungry on a daily basis. In UN Millenium Development Goal 1, the target is to reduce the cases of extreme hunger by half by 2015, but sadly this target will not be met.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched an awareness campaign which aims to collect at least one million signatures against hunger. The campaign symbol, a yellow whistle, serves as an alarm to encourage people to blow the whistle against hunger worldwide. The signatures will call upon national and international leaders to move hunger to the top of their political agenda and to push them to allocate the resources and attention necessary to deal effectively with this pressing issue.
World Scouting, as one of FAO’s partners, supports this campaign and urges Scouts to raise their voices against this current state of being.
