The African Region of the United Religions Initiative (URI) - a global grassroots interfaith network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world has announced that it will dedicate its 2019 Africa Peace Prize to the Scouts. This is in recognition of the movement’s work in promoting dialogue and peace especially among young people.

Speaking at the Partners Networking Session hosted on the sidelines of the 17th Africa Scout Conference in Harare, Zimbabwe with the support of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID), Ambassador Mussie Hailu, Global Envoy of URI and Regional Director for URI-Africa commended the Scouts saying that , “the work Scouts do is amazing and deserves recognition.”

The Partners Networking Session brought together heads of delegations of National Scout Organizations, different partners of Scouting present at the conference to establish explore different possibilities for collaborations. The speakers, who included the Chairperson of newly elected team of Youth Advisors to the Africa Scout Committee, Chief Scout of Tanzania, Mdm Mwantumu Mahiza, the Regional Director Frederic Kama-Kama and Amb. Hailu highlighted the need for collaboration in order to achieve the vision of Scouting and support Scout Organizations to better deliver Scouting to more young people.
