Scout members clean a historical monument
Most counties has special places and monuments that are inherited from the line of civilizations and nations who ruled, occupied or colonised that country before. Palestine is a country which has been ruled by many civilizations, thus it has many monuments and remains that carry one through a rich history of sorrow and eventual victory .
Most goverments with the aid of other local non-governmental organisations take the best possible care of their history and their ancient remains and so does Palestine. Especially in Bethlehem, an important Palestinian and global touristic city, the manger of Jesus Christ with which it became the host of the Nativity church, the municipality of Bethlehem has launched a campaign to clean the historical places in Bethlehem under the label of (Together for a clean and civilized city) so our scout has requested to help since one of the scout's duties is to help their country. So the place which was chosen for our scouts was the "Ein" which translates to "a spring of water". This particular one was constructed by the Ottoman government during the 1530s to rehabilitate the canals of the water of Jerusalem, this Ein was one of the water outlets which was made along the canal to provide water for the cities and the villages that the canal passes through. So in the morning of Thursday 17th August , 2017 fourteen scouts went to the municipality of Bethlehem where they met some municipal council members and public relations employees who talked to the scouts about the Ein and its importance. Then our scouts went with some employees and cleaning workers from the municipality to the Ein where they co-operated together to clean and wash the place. After the activity was over the municipality expressed its appreciation to our scouts, due to their efforts of helping to look after the historical monuments in their country, Palestine, and their city, Bethlehem.
In the end, we truely feel that it was a great chance for our scouts to participate in this activity because they learned a lot of information about a historical place in their city and because they co –operated in cleaning it, building up their teamwork skills and making their city cleaner, one Ein at a time.
