“Time to be Welcome”: The Kick off Meeting
The Kick off Meeting of the project “Time to be Welcome” was held on February 24th-27th, 2017 at the premises of Soma Hellinon Proskopon - Scouts of Greece in Athens, with the participation of representatives of the project’s partner organisations.
The project “Time to be welcome” is a collaborative partnership between World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Soma Hellinon Proskopon - Scouts of Greece (SHP), Scouting Ireland, Scout Association of F.Y.R.O.M., Youth for Exchange and Understanding - YEU International, European Federation for Intercultural Learning (EFIL), British Red Cross Society, The Icelandic Scout Association, Centre Chapelle-aux-Champs, Euclaireuses Eclaireurs Unionistes de France (EEUdF) and SINGA France.
The project is funded by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ program and will run until November 2018, with the involvement of a total of fifty-three (53) volunteers from several countries, volunteering for various durations of time (2 months, 6 months or 12 months).
The project aims to engage young volunteers and youth organisations in Europe to support the reception of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, their integration process and their interaction with members of the local communities.
Volunteers will be involved in refugee support activities in different sites (unaccompanied minors shelters, family hubs, refugee camps, etc.) which are located in Athens, Greece. Activities will be based on non-formal education, recreational activities and youth work, whilst encouraging Public opinion in Europe to be more respectful and more open towards migrants.
At the Kick off Meeting, the objectives and actions of the project were discussed and the implementation timeframe was defined. On Sunday, February 26th, a planned visit took place in refugee camps and other facilities which are accommodating migrants, unaccompanied minors, families and single parent families, facilities where the project activities will take place.
