DAY 2 - CAMPFIRE CRAZINESS AND GLOBAL TRENDS - TEAM LYNX Jambo! After last night’s campfire coziness, disco craziness, nightly jam sessions in the hotel lobby, and a few hours of well-deserved sleep, day two of the WSYF started powerfully. The keynote speech by Ahmed Alhendawi, the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Youth, left no one unmoved. Focus for the speech was Youth and Global trends. The speech, bringing up children and young people as central parts of Global development, left us with the unusual feeling of appreciation. Mr. Alhendawi also confirmed what we all already know, but sometimes just need to hear from someone outside our movement: that Scouting is not only affected by the Global trends, but has a large impact on society. Which Global Youth trend is most important in today’s world? Although Mr. Alhendawi brought up education as one of the most important issues, we’ve decided not to pick just one. Different issues are reality in different societies, and Scouting should be relevant to the societies where we exist. Although education may be considered our main tool for changing the world, the goals of changing local communities will always be different depending on who and where you ask. In the afternoon, we explored awesome activities by some of the participating NSO’s. The project fair exhibited some of the greatest strengths of our movement, and a variety of examples of what Scouting can achieve. //Team Lynx (Mohammed [NEW in the team!], Alison, Julius, Jon, Faah, Nico, Grace, Claire, Elena) through Julius Kramer #youthwall
