Today I'm doing the EVS program (European Voluntary Service) in Italy, but at the same time keep going in scout activities, seeking out new contacts among Italian scouts.
Here, in a small town Pergine Valsugana, not far from Trento, where I live, I met a group of scouts. They warmly welcomed me into their circle, introduced me to Group of guides in their organization and during the past 5 months of my staying in Italy, I actively taking part in various activities of that group.
Sometimes - I make trips to the mountains with an overnight stay. Oftenly this is a massive event for this group, as it involves not only the scouts rovers, but also guides. Hike usually organized on 2 days and is planned mainly on the weekends.
Here is some information about it:
The group leaves in the midday, each participant has a backpack in which he carries warm clothes, sleeping bag, karemat, dishes, food, water and a flashlight. In the first day, the main task of scouts – before the darkness to get to the bivouac in the mountains, where they can organize accommodation.
When the goal is reached, and the scouts were placed in a camp, there comes a time to cooking dinner, Scouts are divided into groups of 3-4 people (pre-allocated) and start cooking.
After supper, oftenly happens the evening event, where scouts gather in a circle and begin to play a variety of hiking games, sing songs with a guitar, play cards and tell different stories, then close to midnight – scouts preparing for bed and laying down to have rest.
Scouts wake up very early, around 7:00 am, have a quick breakfast in groups - wear their backpacks and continued trip. During 1-2 hours the guys reach the peak of the mountain where do massive pictures, enjoy the wonderful views of the Trentino region and leave a message in notebooks for travelers.
A little rested, scouts begin the descent from the mountain. Often it is much more longer than the rise. In this case all participants of the trip are trying to move quickly and go one after the other without losing a tempo. Going down to the bottom of the mountain guys stop for a lunch, discussing the relevant chapter of the "Jungle Book" (Youth program for Girl Scouts, which they follow in their work). So spending lunch break scouts return to Pergine and divergent in their homes for the holiday.
