7th Africa Scout Jamboree Gets Underway in Yamoussoukro
Yamoussoukro, August 1, 2016: Scouts from all over Africa have began streaming into Lycee Moderne Bad in Yamoussoukro, the venue for the 7th Africa Scout Jamboree, which kicks off today until the 10th August in Cote d’Ivoire. The Jamboree opens tomorrow and thousands of Scouts are expected to attend the event which is held every 4 years.
Over the next 10 days, these Scouts supported by a team of more than 500 International Service Team members, will live together in a tented camp and engage in numerous educational and fun activities with the aim of achieving empowerment to become active citizens and take responsibility for contributing to the betterment of their communities, Africa and the world.
The members of the International Service Team, arrived at the site as from Saturday, July 30. They have so far supported the installation of the camp facilities and undergone an induction on their roles as well as Safe From Harm training in readiness to receive the participants. During the Jamboree, these volunteers will work work to ensure the comfort of the participants and that the programme runs well.
The Jamboree Organizing Committee, the World Scout Bureau and the Africa Scout Committee are committed to ensuring a safe and conducive environment for the young people to enjoy Scouting.
