Le Mouvement des Eclaireuses Eclaireurs de France (EEDF) will celebrate the Centenary of Scouting through a special Peace Caravans journey. A project based on the promotion of peace, communication between young people from the North and the South, and the participation of Scouting in creating a better world, the Caravans will travel 4000 kilometres between France and Senegal stopping to meet young people along the way.

Departing on the 1st August 2007, after the Sunrise Ceremony, five teams of young people will take part in this adventure including 30 Scouts from EEDF, 6 Spanish, 6 Moroccan and 6 Mauritanian Scouts. They will then be joined in Saint Louis of Senegal by 35 young Scouts of Senegal.

The French contingent has been preparing its programme for the last eight months, which will be shown to the young people in ten stopover cities: Barcelona, Algeciras, Rabat, Agadir, Layoune, Nouadhibou, Nouakchott, Saint Louis in Senegal, Dakar and Gorée.

The team of the Red Cross will run a programme based around the International Humanitarian Law role playing game- Raid Cross. Aimed at young people between the ages of 12-15 years, the game poses a series of questions and different scenarios relating to international humanitarian law and can be played in groups of up to 30 people.

The team from Toulouse, will encourage people to take part in "the meeting of differences" an interactive show using the method of audience participation.

The team from Lille will invite young people to participate in a show based on the tale "Les Mamelles". There will be a workshop for costumes and decorations, for music and the creation of musical instruments, a workshop of narration and a workshop of dance. This will all culminate in the presentation of the stage performance in the evening.

The Bordeaux team will be responsible for the communications bus of the Caravan. They will meet and interview Scouts and young people from the local communities for the Peace Forum in Dakar. They will also organise all of the press relations in France and the stopover cities, making radio and TV presentations, and keeping a blog for people to follow online.

Five Associations, including EEDF are involved in this peace initiative, Escoltes Catalans, ASDE – Scouts de Andaloucia, Scouts Hassania Marocain, les Scouts et Guides de Mauritanie and les Eclaireuses Eclaireurs du Sénégal.

The Moroccan and Mauritanian delegation of the Red Crescent are also participating with around 10 to 20 volunteers and will run a programme based on First Aid awareness, and offer information about the Organisation.

The return to France is scheduled to be on September 10, 2007.
