GLOBAL PROGRAMMES AND CAMPAIGNS ARE PROMOTING THE FOLLOWING:

• Pledge 1 Billion Service Hours: Post a personal pledge for peace with a “1 Billion Service Hours” message, and tell your friends about your commitment and how you plan to create positive change.

Take it a step further. Tag 2 friends and encourage them to join you for an activity to promote peace. They can also make a pledge and tag another 2 friends, and so on.

• Plant a tree: Involve young people (Scouts and non-Scouts) in your community and plant a tree (or many trees) at home, schools, or public parks, just like what the Scouts of Ecuador did with their Guinness World Records-breaking reforestation campaign (http://scout.org/fr/node/96151).

• Scouts Go Solar: One of many ways to create positive change is to learn about renewable energy. Check out http://scout.org/user/52180/about on the interesting options available and how you can earn the solar badge.

• BOOKS for ALL: Read a book or give it away as a gift. BOOKS for ALL and the PRABUHI Indonesian Reading Volunteer Scouts (http://scout.org/node/62821) are promoting the reading habit and building libraries to support and improve literacy in communities. You can pick a couple of books from your shelf and start a reading campaign for a local community.

• Clothe the Globe: This is a new initiative that gathers clothes and other useful items, and contribute them to those in need. Learn more about this global mission at www.facebook.com/clothetheglobe.

• Scouts of the World Award: This Award (http://scout.org/node/32852/about) challenges all young people, Scouts and non-Scouts, to think about global issues and act upon them in their local communities. The Award requires a commitment from you to make your community a better place.

• Message in a Bottle for Peace: Send a postcard to Scouts in other countries who are in conflict situations. Your words may just give them a little ray of hope and light up their world.

• Peace roadshow: Organise some Scout activities and visit schools to talk about the culture of peace, and how they can play a role too.
