Secretary General appoints Srinath Tirumale as Regional Director for Eurasia
Today, the Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), Ahmad Alhendawi, in consultation with the Eurasia Regional Scout Committee, announced the appointment of Mr Srinath Tirumale Venugopal as the new Regional Director of the World Scout Bureau (WSB) Eurasia Support Centre. Srinath succeeds Iurie Emilian to whom the organisation is grateful for his service and dedication to Scouting.
Srinath’s Scouting days in India and subsequent volunteering opportunities at the Asia-Pacific Scout Region provided him with a solid foundation to serve World Scouting. He has served with the WSB since 2005 through diverse roles in Geneva, Nairobi, and Kuala Lumpur where he was the Executive Director of the Office of the Secretary General from 2015 to 2017. He is currently the Interim Coordinator for the WSB Eurasia Support Centre in Kiev.
“I look forward to continue working with Srinath in supporting the development of Scouting in the Eurasia Scout Region. During the past months, Srinath has worked tirelessly to bring a positive momentum to the Region and support the NSOs in addressing critical areas to grow Scouting in the region,” said Ahmad following the announcement.
The selection was completed following a rigorous process in consultation with the Regional Scout Committee where the joint panel of the World Scout Bureau and the Regional Scout Committee made a unanimous recommendation to appoint Srinath to the role of Regional Director.
“On behalf of the Regional Scout Committee, it is my pleasure to welcome Srinath to our team. We believe that he will use his skills and talents in helping our region reach new heights. I'm confident that by leveraging his experience and expertise, passion for Scouting and faith in our region, our common objectives will become a reality. Together, we will create a better world for future generations! Welcome on board!” remarked Sergiu Chirica, the Eurasia Regional Scout Committee Chairperson.
“Together with the Regional Scout Committee, and with active engagement from our NSOs, we have already managed to bring some positive momentum in our efforts to manage change. We will work together with all supporters from within and outside the Region to make the aim of scouting growth in Eurasia come true,” said Srinath who is looking forward to the exciting challenges ahead.
Srinath holds a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering as well as a Post Graduate Degree in Development Management and holds Indian citizenship. He will transition officially from his current role as Interim Coordinator to the role of Regional Director on 1 August 2019.
