On the occasion of International Youth Day, the Africa Scout Region will launch its Youth Speak Series. This is a talk show that aims to provide a platform for Scouts and non-Scout Young Leaders to share their inspirational stories of change and engage in dialogue on pertinent issues that promote the Youth and Leadership.

The series is designed as a virtual monthly show moderated by a young person and will be exploring different themes. It envisions conversations by young leaders from across the world with inputs from adult volunteers and partners of Scouting in the region.

The inaugural show will be held on 12th August 2020 at 7:00pm (GMT+3) via Zoom to coincide with the International Youth Day. This will run under the day’s theme of “Youth Engagement for Global Action”. The theme seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

The session will be moderated by Grace Kamau, Assistant, Youth Programme at the World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre and the panelists for the day will include:

  1. Ms. Kathleen Godfrey: Chairperson of the Youth Advisors to the Africa Scout Committee
  2. Mr. Edgar Marumbu: Youth Advisor to the World Scout Committee
  3. Ms. Sandrine Nikuze: Deputy Chief Commissioner, Rwanda Scout Association
  4. Dr. Bako Almoctar: Messengers of Peace Coordinator, Niger and WOSM Consultant

There will also be inputs from some partners of Scouting in the region.
