Update on preparations for the 25th World Scout Jamboree
The World Scout Committee (WSC) met in Istanbul, Turkey, from 31 March to 2 April 2022. During the meeting, the WSC received reports from the Host of the 25th World Scout Jamboree, the Korea Scout Association, as well as from the World Scout Bureau, about the ongoing preparations for the event scheduled to take place in Saemangeum, Republic of Korea, from 1 to 12 August 2023.
The Host reported on its progress to prepare for the Jamboree and highlighted various challenges and delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic that have made the preparations more difficult. The WSC also heard the reasons behind the Host’s request to postpone the event until 2024, and was pleased to receive a confirmation from the Host of its continued commitment to organise the event in 2023.
Following careful review of the reports and thorough deliberations, the WSC has decided to decline the request to postpone the Jamboree until 2024, confirming that the event will proceed as scheduled in August 2023. The WSC welcomes the Host’s continued commitment to deliver the Jamboree as planned in August 2023.
To ensure the successful planning of the Jamboree, and ensure mutual confidence of all stakeholders that the event will be delivered on time and up to the standards set out in the WOSM Guidelines for the Hosting of the World Scout Jamboree, the WSC provided the Host with a list of expected confirmations and commitments.
Over the next weeks, WOSM will follow up with the Host on these confirmations and commitments, and plan further support measures to strengthen the planning process for the 25th World Scout Jamboree in 2023. More information and details will be communicated to National Scout Organizations and Heads of Contingents as they become available during the second half of April.
