Jemima started scouting as a friend and sponsor of a scouting group out of her passion for young people and the love to serve. This led her to join as a registered member of the Ghana Scout Association in 1994. She went through various trainings from the Basic Training Course (BTC) until she attained a Wood Badge in December 2004.
Jemima was a group Scout Leader and also a member of the District ‘B’ of the Greater Accra Regional Scout Council. She was elected the Deputy Chief Commissioner from 2002 – 2010 serving a total of 3 terms in that position but eventually resigned to enable her focus fully on her position as the Chairperson of the Africa Scout Committee in July 2010. With her background in communication, she became a member of the Communication Committee and was the spokesperson for the Ghana Scout Association. She was responsible for educating the general public on issues of Scouting and its activities through the media.
Her teaching background endeared her to be a member of the training committee. She was involved in various workshops that dealt with social issues such as HIV/AIDS, Girl Child education, Environmental workshops etc. She is very instrumental in the Association’s programs that deal with children from difficult circumstances and reaching out to the vulnerable in society. Some of these achievements were adjudged as best practice stories by the World Scout Bureau. She served as the organizing committee Chairperson in the 1st and 2nd West Africa Zonal Scout Conference/Adult Resource workshop which was held in Accra – Ghana in 2003 and 2004. She also served as the Conference Director of the 14th Africa Regional Scout conference held in Accra in 2009. Jemima has attended all the annual West Africa Zonal Scout conferences in Sierra Leone, Niger, Liberia, Togo and Benin. She also served as the Chairperson of the Ghana- Netherlands Partnership from 2009- 2010.
In 2007, she was elected at the 13th Africa Regional Scout Conference in Rwanda to serve as a member of the Africa Scout Committee. In 2009 she was elected as the Chairperson of the Africa Scout Committee until 2012 and also served as a non-voting member of the World Scout Committee.
In addition to being the Chairperson of the Africa Scout Committee, she was also responsible for the Southern zone and attended the Zonal Conference and Communications workshop in Manzini- Swaziland in 2010. Jemima has participated as a Chairperson for Africa during the Africa Scout Day celebrations in Burundi and Angola. She has served on various committees nationally and regionally and recently as a member of the Human Rights Task Force. She ran a workshop on Human rights at the Africa Scout Day celebration in Manzini- Swaziland in March 2014.
She has served the Movement in various capacities: Nationally, Regionally and at the World level. She has also represented the Africa Region at various international events.
Jemima is a member of the Africa Scout Foundation in the Silver Category.
To date, she is a member of the constitutions committee of the Ghana Scout Association and supports the leadership of the National Association. Jemima is an Adult leader of the Horizons Scout Group.
