Portrait de World Scouting
by World Scouting from Worldwide
Publication date: 11. mai 2021

A new resource from World Scouting is now available providing National Scout Organizations with more guidance about how to implement Scouts for SDGs in the community, and how World Scouting initiatives under the Better World Framework will now be organised into several key educational areas: environment and sustainability; peace and community engagement; health and well-being; and skills for life.

The alignment of World Scouting initiatives into these areas aims to ensure that Scouting continues to provide an educational experience that is relevant for young people today and which addresses some of the most pressing global issues and trends directly affecting them, such as climate change, gender and racial inequality, mental illness, humanitarian crises, and conflict.

The new Scouts for SDGs in the Community guide enables National Scout Organizations to better understand how World Scouting initiatives such as the Earth Tribe, Messengers of Peace, and others soon to be developed, can complement national Youth Programmes and engage young people in learning about and taking action for sustainable development.

Each initiative, designed in collaboration with partners who have expertise in specific educational areas, contains activities and challenges that inspire young people to be active citizens who are serving their communities. They also offer a set of defined learning paths and objectives to equip young people with knowledge, skills, understanding, attitude and values compatible with sustainable development.

The Scouts for SDGs in the Community guide serves as a resource for National Scout Organizations to adopt best practices in global citizenship education, integrate World Scouting initiatives into national Youth Programmes, and improve collaboration with partners, donors and local communities.

The guide also provides an overview of how to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation system to better track and measure the global contribution of Scouting’s educational programmes around the world towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

National Scout Organizations that want to learn more about how to integrate Scouts for SDGs and World Scouting initiatives under the Better World Framework into their national Youth Programmes can request support through WOSM Services, or download the new resource
