FOFSAG Malaysia hosts Asia-Pacific Regional Gathering for Scouts and Guides

To strengthen the bond between former Scouts and Guides, the Malaysia (Fellowship of Former Scouts and Guides) FOFSAG, organized the International Scouts and Guides Fellowship (ISGF) Asia-Pacific Regional Gathering on 17h to 20th July 2009 in Pahang, Malaysia.

The special gathering focused on networking that is seem to blossom into greater cooperation of ISGF members on different areas specifically in assisting projects for young Scouts and Guides in the region.

Over 110 participants from Australia, Bangladesh, India, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan and Tunisia, including Malaysia with 56 Scouts and Guides, came to participate. ISGF World Committee Chairman Brett D Grant of Australia, who was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony, said that the participation of overseas Scouts and Guides brought richness of opinions and a good blend of experiences.

He added that with this regional gathering, which was held after a 10-year lapse, having the participation of WAGGGS and WOSM, he believed that ISGF will become stronger and durable, with its roots in more countries for greater stability. Also at the opening were World Scout Committee member Eric Khoo, Scout Association of Malaysia Chief Commissioner Ybhg Dato Haji Kaharudin bin Momin, Girl Guides Association of Malaysia Chief Commissioner Datin Hjh Zalillah Mohd Taib, Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed.

FOFSAG Malaysia President Sdr. Tajinder Singh Sohanpal added that as the Asia-Pacific Region is the biggest in size and membership of young Scouts and Guides, he hoped that the gathering will be a catalyst to produce a stronger regional membership.

The ISGF was created in 1953 with 18 countries. Today, there are more than 50 National Fellowships in five continents with a 50,000 members. In the Asia-Pacific Region, member organizations are Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka that are involved in many projects throughout the region. Over the years, FOFSAG has grown and transformed with the purpose of keeping alive the spirit of Promise and Law.
