Scouts celebrate Clean Up the World Weekend

1. Jan 2009

As a contribution to the Clean Up the World Weekend, the Scout Troop of Our Lady of Remedies in Manila, Philippines, under the Asia-Pacific Region Ticket To Life Project, conducted a coastal clean up at the Manila Bay, on 19th September 2009.

Armed with nets, the 25 Scouts, proudly wearing their scarves, collected some six sacks of trash floating from the Manila Bay. Scouts braved the huge amount of debris and trash floating at the bay and were excited to collect the garbage. The passersby were impressed seeing this little act of kindness.

The purpose of this activity was able to instill in the minds of these kids the consequences of not properly disposing the garbage and for them to develop a heart that cares for the environment.

The clean-up activity was supervised by Troop Leader, Derek Bonifacio from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines; the Parish Social Worker, Angel de Veza; and the TTL National Coordinator for the Philippines, Sophie Castillo.
