Reykjavík PeaceÞing

Reykjavík PeaceÞing Vision
We believe that each and every individual has a special gift that the human kind needs to create peace and prosperity in the world. That each and every individual is like a piece of puzzle in the world’s picture of peace.
We believe that the gathering of these gifts creates the compassion and collective wisdom that can create and sustain peace and prosperity for the good of all human beings and the Earth.
We believe that Scouts and Guides are Messengers of Peace.

With the Peace Þing, we wanted to promote people’s ideas about peace.
One of the ways to reach our goals was to offer attendies to participate in 22 lectures that offered focus on the idea of peace in its most diverse form.
The Peace Þing speakers all had displayed peace in action, whether it is privately or publicly. We wanted the lectures to give participants insight into the diverse flora of work that can lead to peace. To show the participants, for example, that to think well of themselves, to laugh with others and to allow children to have an impact on their lives is a step towards peace in the world. We are not all meant to be the next Gandhi  but we can do our part which in the end will have a major impact. Therefore, when each of us make a contribution no matter how small or large it is, we can form a Gandhi-effect that spreads rapidly and thoroughly throughout the world.
At the Peace Þing we wanted ordinary people to show how they have contributed to peace. With the Peace Þing the participants were filled with the idea that they can contribute and no matter how small their contribution is, it will always have an impact. Thus proving the saying “every little thing counts”.
The lectures were recorded on video and will be publicly available. Give others the chance to experience the inspiration that will be created at the Peace Þing and encourage more people to contribute to a good cause.
The Peace Þing hosted workshops where ideas and tools for peace education for teachers, leaders in youth work and parents were presented. The workshops were intended as training in how to approach young people with a peace mission in mind.
