The Big Six Youth Organisations are calling on governments, intergovernmental institutions and policymakers to develop youth-centred COVID-19 recovery efforts to alleviate the pandemic’s long-term socio-economic consequences on today’s youth.

In their recent report, Young People Championing Post-Pandemic Futures, the youth organisations offer key policy recommendations and calls to action on developing a youth-led recovery to address the widespread challenges brought by the pandemic.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, young people have been disproportionately affected by the disruption of many aspects of their lives due to nationwide lockdowns, social isolation, gaps in education, and more. The pandemic has exacerbated inequalities and continues to disproportionately affect the social life, education, employment, health and wellbeing of millions of young people worldwide. Yet, young people have demonstrated resilience and are at the forefront of COVID-19 response and recovery by being active in their communities to curb the spread of the virus and safeguard the wellbeing of community members.

World Scouting encourages National Scout Organisations and Associations to make use of this resource in local advocacy efforts and to continue finding safe and innovative solutions to address the effects of the pandemic on today’s youth.

The Big Six youth organisations, the World Health Organisation and the United Nations Foundation have also joined forces to build the capacity of young people to be at the forefront of Covid-19 response and recovery through the Global Youth Mobilisation for ‘Generation Disrupted’.
