World Forest day Awareness Camapign & Earth hour

Rovers of V.O. Chidambaram Scout Group had Crew Council Meeting On 08th March 2015 regarding the programme to celebrate the International Forestry Day at DHQ and also it pays way for them to work for their Ecologist proficiency badge. Rover Scout Leader Mr. C.I. Sivanandam RSL & ALT/ Rover had suggested the theme ‘Save Trees – Plant more Trees – Save Forests’. We have invited the specialist from WWF Mr. S. Saravanan, Senior Education Officer to give the speech on Need of Forest, Mr. G. Thangaraj, District Co-ordinator from National Green Corps (NGC) had addressed the gathering about Save Trees and Tree Plantation necessary and Mr. Rodrick Francis SSE/ICF has been spoken on Conservation. We have been planned to go awareness walk from ICF District Headquarters covering the ICF North Colony area on Sunday the 22rd March 2015 between 11.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs.
Cubs, Scouts & Guides , Rovers & Rangers were assembled by Mr. M.Vasanth ARSL for Flag Ceremony at 9.30 hrs at DHQ, the group was led by Mr. C.I. Sivanandam RSL & ALT/ Rover , Rover N. Sarveshwaran as duty leader and Flag had been hoisted in the presence of all the leaders and distinguished guests - Mr. T.S. Ganesh, Dy.CMM/SD, Mr. N. Senthil Kumar, DOC/Scouts , Mr. Syed Baharuddin, ADC/Rover, Mr. S. Saravanan, Senior Education Officer, WWF, Mr. G. Thangaraj, District Co-ordinator from National Green Corps (NGC). Group members were gathered for inaugural function with anchoring by B. Hari Krishnan & C. Harini ARL, welcome address and introduction of guests was given by Mr. M.B. Vasu, ALT/Scouts, Mr. S.R. Tamil Selvan GL/Scouts addressed the gathering on the topic Save Trees in a interesting manner. Mr. T.S. Ganesh, DCC & Dy.CMM/SD address the participants on uses of trees in our day to day life and suggested to plant more plants in our society. Mr. S. Saravanan, Senior Education Officer, WWF had given the speech on Need of Forest and explained about the forest cover in India and world, he analysed the problems of flora and fauna in detailed manner, he also explained about the Earth Hour programme and requested the parents and audience to switch off Lights as much as possible in our day to day life to conserve energy. Mr. G. Thangaraj, District Co-ordinator from National Green Corps (NGC) had spoke on ecological problems and interacted with kids and parents about tree cutting in urban and suggested the audience to leave good greenery for the future generation. Mr. Rodrick Francis SSE/ICF had spoke on conservation of all natural resources and how it can be practically executed in our lives and initiated immediately conservation with us by Switching off unwanted fans in that hall and it was most exiting for all them who were in that hall, he had concluded his speech with a quote to follow as Reduce – Reuse – Recycle. Pamphlets were released by Mr. G. Thangaraj, District Co-ordinator from National Green Corps (NGC) and it was handed over to Mr. S.R. Tamil Selvan, GL/Scouts. Awareness walk was Flagged Off by Mr. S.R. Tamil Selvan, GL/Scouts in the presence of all distinguished guests. Awareness walk was led by I.C.F. District Band team followed by Cubs, Scouts & Guides, Rovers & Rangers and all the Leaders.
Awareness walk with announcement by Rover Mr. R. Naresh Kumar in Streets to convey the theme to the public with the aid of loud speaker. Walk was proceeding towards ICF North Colony streets by issuing pamphlets to colony residents and general public and raising Slogans. We also distributed Eco-friendly Bags to public sponsored by Mr.G. Thangaraj, District Co-ordinator from National Green Corps (NGC). Walk reached the finishing point by 12.30 Hrs. A warm welcome was given by Mr. S.R. Tamil Selvan GL/Scouts, Mr. M.B.Vasu, ALT/S & DTC/S. Soft Drinks provided to the Scouts & Guides by Mr. S. Mahesh, ASM & ADC/S at 12.45 hrs. All the Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers assembled in 60 + formation for observing the Earth Hour. Reassembled for the Closing ceremony of the Awareness walk in presence of Distinguished Guest of Honours. Mr. S.R. Tamil Selvan, GL/S & ALT/S addressed the gathering and Vote of thanks was delivered, the programmed came to an end with National Anthem.
