50 Participants from all around Europe met at Guadarrama, near Madrid, Spain for the Training Commissioners Network Meeting. A very intensive and active event produced a lot of exchanges and new ideas for work and cooperation.

The Training Commissioners and others working in this area met for the first time almost three years ago, in September 2007, in the Scout Centre Głodówka, in Poland. One of the conclusions of the meeting was that such gatherings should be regular, to provide space for on-going exchange.

This, the second meeting gathered many more participants, from 22 associations in 19 countries. The format of the meeting was also slightly changed - moving away from an event fully prepared by the Planning Team to more exchange and contributions from participants. The aim was to provide space for sharing experiences and establishing partnerships between National Training Commissioners.

A large list of issues tackled offered a lot of space for discussion, sharing and learning from each other:

  • Scouting as a learning environment for adults (with an introduction from the keynote speaker)
  • Life long Learning
  • Learning pathways
  • New training methods
  • Recognition of training in Scouting
  • Validation of training
  • Training System Toolkit
  • Training of trainers
  • Wood Badge courses
  • Needs related to (youth) leaders’ training
  • European tools and funding opportunities

An “Open Space” that took up an entire afternoon added a few more topics based on the interest of participants.

The participants concluded that the meetings should be annual. A small team comprised of 4 commissioners undertook to plan the next meeting.

The Meeting was supported by the Youth in Action Programme of the European Union, and hosted by ASDE.
