What started out as a goal of providing shoes to one school in the Cayo district of Belize, has turned into an extraordinary mission of giving. God gets all the credit because only, He could have brought together this special connection that enables this annual shoe drive.

For the past 10 years, The Troop #27 Santa Elena Jaguar Scouts from Belize have maintained a partnership with international organizations that include Ascension Lutheran Church and YouCan Missions to make the distribution of shoes within Belize possible. Over the years, hundreds of volunteers in the United States of America from schools, churches, service organizations and businesses have gathered together to collect, sort and package approximately 4,000 new or gently used shoes. These shoes are then shipped to Belize, where a team of US volunteers and our Scouts work alongside each other to distribute them at local Primary Schools, underprivileged Villages and Churches. At these locations the beneficiaries range in age from young toddlers to the elderly.

Each person who is blessed with a shoe is personally attended by a member of the team to ensure that the perfect shoe possible is obtained. It is during this time that a bond of gratitude is created and the reward of smiling individuals touches everyone’s hearts. This year, a total of about 20 Scouts and 40 YouCan Mission Volunteers will have participated in making this event possible." Aaron Pook , Scouts of Belize
