Insights from the Polish Scouts" The World Is Rapidly Changing, Scouting Should Catch UP!"
Over the last weekend (9-10 February 2019) in Oltarzew near Warsaw, Poland, special task force of ZHP (Polish Scouting and Guiding Association) volunteers held a meeting to make progress in their endeavour on the way to review and update the educational methods in ZHP. The world and people are changing, so must the Scout programmes. Activity badges, ranks and other educational tools should be as much open and adjusted for young people as only possible.
One of the most important aspects of the meeting was a decision about the scheme of new activity badges and rank programmes.
As ZHP we can see that changes are inevitable. We want them to be as much well-thought-out and effective as they can be.
For the last year the ideas and suggestions concerning the reforms have been consulted with the whole Polish Scouting and Guiding society.
Five Scout and Guide leaders representing Czechia, Slovakia, Ireland, Portugal and UK accepted the invitation to the debate. The guests shared their programmes and experiences with Polish participants. They spoke about how their organisations went through the changes, and gave pieces of advice to the Polish team. After the meeting ZHP is better prepared to bring in the reforms.
We are grateful to our guests: Denisa from Czech Scouting, Lucia from Scouting Slovakia, Sue from Girlguiding (UK), Brendan from Scouting Ireland and Daniel from Corpo Nacional de Escutas (Portugal) for their inspirational presentations and engagement in the discussions. The input received from our guests will be used to prepare the details of our educational system.
