6th Interamerican youth Forum, more than just a dialogue exercise
The 6th Interamerican Scout Youth forum will be held on 24th, 25th, and 26th of November 2018 in the Radisson Decapolis Hotel in Panama City. This sixth edition of the Forum was organized by the Interamerican Scout Committee in the collaboration of the World Scout Bureau-Interamerica Support Centre. 75 young people from over 30 countries, that compose the Interamerican region, are together in on place in order for the voice of the youth to be heard in a multicultural pace that promotes innovation and leadership
The Regional Youth Forums are held every 3 years, prior to the Scout Conference and are educational platforms that support the development of the Youth Involvement in decision making bodies in, and outside of the Scout Movement, in addition it is also a space of exchange and dialogue that empowers and inspire the youth through a participatory focus where topic of interest are presented in order to generate proposals and recommendations to the regional government bodies in Scouting.
In the opening ceremony, we had the presence of Gus Sanchez and Daniel Petroche, Youth Advisors to the Interamerican Scout Committee; Seruya Damasco and Monica Figueroa, Coordinators of the Interamerican Youth Network; Ricardo Stuber, Chairperson of the Regional Committee and Raul Sanchez, Regional Director. The 75 delegates that are participating in this event in the city of Panama have the experience and knowledge about the realities of their countries and also their National Scout Organizations which they represent, this will make their participation mean full in such a way that it can be reflected in critical discussions based on mutual respect, and knowledge that contributes to an innovative vision that pushes our region up.
The program will be delivered in a dynamic way through different activities, work groups, plenaries, workshops and dialogue spaces where each participant will acquire abilities and tools to generate positive change in their communities through concrete actions and projects of community involvement.
In addition to dialogue and reporting, the Regional Forum is aligned with the fulfilling of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN. Working with SDGs 4,5,10,12,16 that are focused on quality education, gender equality, reducing inequality, responsible consumption and production, culture of peace and partnerships for achieve a good level of sustainability.
As the final result, it is expected to produce a youth declaration, recommendations that will improve this international youth movement, also newly elected Youth Network Coordinators and Youth Advisors to the Interamerican Scout Committee.
