Spanish Scouts Launch a Campaign Against Pet Abandonment
Scouts de España and Royal Canin have cooperated to raise awareness about pet abandonment. About 500 food rations have been donated to Arca Sevilla, an animal shelter. This is the third time that Scouts de España promote the campaign #Scoutsnoabandonan (Scouts don´t leave them behind) that aims to raise awareness about a huge problem in Spain: pet abandonment especially during summer time. Royal Canin and Scouts de España have worked together to promote the campaign through encouraging people to post pictures with their pets on social media. They wanted to encourage pet owners to enjoy their holidays while having their pets with them.
Pet owners were encouraged to show how much they have enjoyed their holidays with their pets. Scouts and non-Scouts took part in this initiative that reached almost 500 pictures featuring love and respect for animals and nature. For each photo Royal Canin has donated an animal food ration to a highly reputed shelter called Arca, located in Sevilla.
“We made sure that girls, boys and youth showed their love to animals to set a positive example to other people. Every summer, many pets are abandoned and animal shelters are underresourced and overcrowded ”. Explains Elena Cabezas, International Commissioner at Scouts de España.
“A pet is not a toy. #Scoutsnoabandonan is a a way for adults and children to bring awareness about the huge negative impact that animal abandonment has”, says Mª Ángeles Toscano, Corporate Affairs manager at Royal Canin, “we are really pleased to take part in this campaign to sensitise pet owners to be more responsible”.
