Sov ude – Sleep Out
Reconnecting to earth. Slowing down and fully taking in the moment.
As Scouts we aim to be aware of our surroundings and of the magic that we find within it. But also, we are simply normal people who get caught up with daily tasks, fall into our routine and miss out on stopping for a moment and look around us.
At Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC), a group of Staff decided to follow the initiative of the Danish Scout Association “Det Danske Spejderkorps” who encouraged Scouts but also Non-Scouts for the annual Sov Ude (English Translation: Sleep Out).
But what are the reasons that made sleeping in one of KISC´s shelters so special for the participating Pinkies?
“Because one thing I always miss, is to be in full harmony with nature and sleeping outside is the prove, that I am, no matter what, still comfortable out there.” Bento (PT)
It was the moment when the phones were stored away, and the stories from Scouting around the World were shared the Magic happened. It is the Magic of KISC when Scouts from different countries all over the World sit together, share their favourite fairy tales and Scouting stories, and celebrate ones’ tradition together.
The warmth and light of the campfire was supported by the full moon and clear sky leaving the Pinkies with great memories on this special event. The feeling you get when you go to sleep and are comfortable in your sleeping bag, breathing in fresh mountain air being surrounded by friends from all over the World is an experience that cannot be taken for granted.
“It is also about the friendships you make whilst being outdoors with others, it is a special moment and hard to find.” Mads (DK).
And this, again, is the Magic of KISC that comes alive when being together with Scouts from all around the world, bridging cultures by sharing experience from home.
