Jamboree Forum at Colombo Centenary International Scout Jamboree

Jamboree Forum was an unique event at the Jamboree which brought together young people at CCISJ from 12 different countries to discuss matters of importance, in the current context of the world. The key objectives of the Forum was as follows,

1. To give young people the opportunity to discuss issues in a friendly and open environment.
2. To allow youth to get a better understanding on trending global issues which has a direct impact on them.
3. To encourage youth to “listen to other perspectives and share their own perspective”.
4. Encourage participants to brainstorm ideas on how they can combat these global issues at individual, community and scout unit level as Messengers of Peace.

The Forum Agenda comprised of items such as the Key Note Speech, Scouter’s Perspective, Experience Sharing Session and Group Discussions and Group Presentations and was held on 3rd & 5th August 2014 from 5.00 pm till 6.30 pm. The thematic area for 1st Session of the Jamboree Forum on 3rd was “Global trends in healthy life styles” and the Key Note Speech was delivered by Mr. Nalin Jayawardena, the Health Promotion Facilitator - NIROGI Diviya component of NIROGI Lanka Project of Sri Lanka Medical Association. The thematic area for 2nd session on 5th was “Environment and the Global Impact of Climate Change” and the Key Note Speech was delivered by Mr.Abdul Qadir Uvais, the Earth Hour Global's Country Representative in Sri Lanka.

Both sessions concluded with fruitful discussion outcomes and the Scout and Girl Guides who attended the Forum left with new knowledge and a vision, on two of the most important global challenges faced by the human race at the moment. Most importantly, they left with ideas gathered by discussing with their colleagues on what action they could take at individual, community and Scout Unit level to combat these two challenges as "MESSENGERS OF PEACE"!
