As we all know, due to the following heavy rain in last July- August, 2017 the Eastern India states Bihar, Jharkhand & West Bengal was affected by severe flooding. In West Bengal the floods were reported to have caused 50 deaths since 1st august and several injuries were reported. The most affected part of the West Bengal is his Malda District. Till the date most of the areas are under the water. People started living on the divider of NH-34 because that is the only higher ground for them. Many ill-fated peoples were moved to the flood relief camps. They were suffered with hunger, clean water deficiency and many water borne diseases like diarrhea, malaria, coldness etc.
As a scout it’s our responsibility to help those ill-fated peoples. So, on the occasion of the International Peace Day 2017 we are committed to help our peoples by bringing some foods, clean waters and most importantly medicines.
The help comes from our local school (The Scottish Church Collegiate School) scout group named 1st/2nd Calcutta/ S.C.C.S Scouts Group, West Bengal, India. The every students of the school came forward with help. They contribute mostly dry foods. The Scouts & Rovers had gave a tremendous effort on this collection process, as well as they contribute a large quantity relief materials from their own.
We reached the Malda Town on 17th September, 2017 at 6 of the morning from their we had travelled about 35-38 Km to reach the flood effected areas. We started our journey from Gazole, then we visit the Allalpur village near Chanchol. In the presence of B.D.O of that area we started the distribution process. About 1000 peoples got relief materials of that said village. We mainly distribute dry foods like biscuits, baby foods (specially milk),water bottles, etc. After spending 3 consecutive days in that village, peoples were very satisfied and they gave us blessings for our noble job.
I want to thank my 23 fellow scouts, rovers & leaders for come forward with their help. Without them this initiative can't be implemented.
