@sweden tweets from the Swedish Jamboree17
Six years ago some 40000 Scouts gathered in southern Sweden at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree to spend 12 memorable days. This week 11000 are back for Jamboree17, the Swedish National Jamboree. Jamboree17 is this year’s largest Scout and Guide event in Sweden. Participants from all over Sweden and abroad are meeting at the Rinkaby fields outside Kristianstad, Sweden.
Aron is one of them. He is a Scout from northern Sweden, studying computer sciences in Luleå and volunteering at Jamboree17. And this week he is also curating @sweden, the rotating twitter account which was created to show-case life in Sweden. Aron wants to show-case scouterna (Swedish Scouting and Guiding) and this week's National Jamboree.
The Jamboree media team spoke with Aron to find out more about his role at the camp and as person behind @sweden:
"Here at the Jamboree, I help run a Model-UN for Scouts and Guides aged 15-18. The participants are confronted with a diplomatic crisis which they will will attempt to solve through discussions and peaceful means. We decided to run this workshop because Scouting is not just about being outdoors. It is also about meeting and helping people."
"To meet people today, you need to be online. And that is why I decided to curate @sweden during Jamboree17: to help show Sweden and the world what Scouting is about", explains Aron.
Beyond Scouting, Aron hopes to use @sweden to promote IT-security. A field he’s passionate about and which is part of his studies at Luleå University of Technology.
