«Πάμε παρέα!» - Scouts in Corfu and Lesvos “go together”!
The Scouts of Stroggili in Corfu (Greece) feel close to the children of the village of Vrissa in Lesvos, also in Greece. Vrissa and other areas on the island of Lesvos experienced a particularly powerful earthquake last June which not only resulted in the collapse of many homes but also destroyed the historic primary school of the village, which had been built 115 years ago.
The student community of the Athens-Psychico College has since promised to help with the reconstruction of the school building and the provision of the logistical infrastructure for its re-opening. Until then, and from the forthcoming September, the Vrissa Primary School will operate in a specially equipped prefabricated building and enable some 60 pupils to continue their education.
As a signal of solidarity and from 1 August to 5 September 2017, the Scouts of Stroggili, with the generous support of the local cultural association, the athletic club and the Stroggili Kindergarten will “go together” to school with the pupils of Vrissa. Not literally of course, but through a community activity which includes the collection of useful school material such as notebooks, pencils, pen, erasers, scrapers, woodcarvers, markers, notes and paintings, rulers, casings, school bags, etc.
Ιn collaboration with the Scouts of Lesvos, all collected material will be offered to the school community of Vrissa in September, together with a message of Scout love and the best wishes for a good and efficient school year.
