Cub Scout Pack 920 Trees for the World MOP Project

The Cub Scouts of Pack 920 (7-10 year olds; Spring, Texas, USA), in coordination with the groundskeepers of the Windrose community, planted 63 Oleander trees (one representing each scout in the pack at the beginning of the 2013/2014 school year) and six Cleveland Flowering Pear trees (one representing each den/patrol in the pack) in their community. The local Boy Scout Troop (Troop 87) and Girl Scout Troop (Troop 13322) were also invited and participated in this event. This project was done as a forestry/range management type project to provide supplemental vegetative cover in areas where plants/trees had died, or were otherwise affected by previous year’s drought conditions.

This activity was done in conjunction with the global “Trees for the World” Messenger of Peace Project on April 26th, 2014 sponsored by the BSA International Scouting Program. The trees were all planted by scouts in holes started by a powered auger (operated by scouters) and expanded/prepped by hand with shovel and trowel by the scouts.
