656 kilometres from my home: Brussels by Eva Haunerová from the Czech Republic
For 6 months my new home will be in Brussels, Belgium. This city is famous mainly for the presence of the European Institutions, the Atomium, its local waffle and chocolate, French fries or Brussels sprout. Brussels is full of institutions, international companies, students and ...Europeans.
One of them is me. Now I have an opportunity to work in the office of the European Region of WOSM in Brussels. This office is in charge of external relations and funding. My Czech NSA, Junák - Association of Scouts and Guides - CZ is partner to WOSM European Scout Region for a project granted by the Youth in Action Programme (European Union). After having applied for a call published by Junák, I have been selected to be part of this project as an ‘Assistant of External Relations and Funding’. The project requires me to be a support for the office in Brussels, but also a great resource for activities of Junák.
My new work will allow me to develop my knowledge, some useful competences and skills in external relations, searching for funding opportunities, a proposal development and a project administration at European level. I will be also involved in organizing Network Meeting for Guide and Scout Representatives to National Youth Councils in Brussels, later on I will be a part of WOSM European Scout Region Staff Meetings in Geneva and Kandersteg, Switzerland, and many other meetings organized by other partners.
I am sure it is going to be a useful experience both for me and my Scout and Guide National Organization. It is also a great opportunity for my personal and professional development and I will do my best to be a useful member of my new working team.
And besides, I am looking forward to getting to know better other cultures and atmosphere of Brussels. I plan to visit local museums and all the lovely buildings in the Art Nouveau style. And maybe I will learn French finally! I am prepared for the adventure!
