30 July 2016, Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire: In two days time, over thousands of Scouts from all over Africa and beyond will converge in a tented city in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire for the Africa Scout Jamboree that will be held from 1 - 10 August 2016. The event is organized by the Africa Scout Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and hosted by the Fédération Ivoirienne du Scoutisme (Federation of Ivorian Scouting).

The Africa Scout Jamboree is the largest regular event organized by the Africa Scout Region, gathering thousands of young people from all over Africa and the world. It is above all an educational event to promote peace and understanding. The Jamboree includes a wide variety of activities and also places great importance on the everyday life and interaction on the campsite.

This is the 7th Africa Scout Jamboree (ASJ); the first was held in Shere Hills, Jos, Nigeria in 1976. The Africa Scout jamboree takes place every 4 years in a different country. The theme of the 7ASJ is Empowered Youth in an Emerging Africa.

For 10 days, Scouts, boys and girls aged 11-17 years will have an amazing opportunity of living and working in a multicultural environment, finding out about each other’s cultures, faiths and beliefs, sharing their own culture with others, taking part in adventurous activities and learning about global issues, amongst many other activities. It is a fantastic non-formal education opportunity for these young participants.

Besides that, the jamboree will also provide great experience for over 700 members volunteers from around the continent who will form the International Service Team (IST). Aged over 18 years old, they will perform a variety tasks in different areas and contribute to the smooth running of the Jamboree.

The jamboree programme running form the opening ceremony on the morning of 2 August and until the closing ceremony on the evening of 9 August, will consist of a wide range of structure activities as well as many informal learning opportunities. The programme for young people is based on the sub themes of cultural diversity, faiths and beliefs, peace dialogue, community service, environment, information and communication technology and sustainable development.
