Aligning for Vision 2023 In recent months, the Strategy Monitoring Group has helped to facilitate 3 Strategy Alignment Workshops with each of the 6 Regions of WOSM. The objectives of the workshops were: To increase capacity of each of the Regions with regard to Triennial Plan development, monitoring and evaluation To explore different methodologies used in Regions, share and where possible align To ensure correct understanding of Vision 2023 and align strategic focus of Regions towards it To ensure the workshop is replicable on a Regional level towards NSOs The first of the workshops took place in Istanbul, Turkey. Representatives from the Asia-Pacific and European Scout Regions were present. The workshop was considered valuable by all participants, providing them with tools and methods to use in the preparation of their own Regional Scout Plans, as well as exploring the important issues of implementation, monitoring and evaluation. The second workshop took place in Cairo, Egypt, where representatives from the Arab, Eurasia and Interamerica Scout Regions came together. This workshop built on the successes of the first one, and allowed for interesting exchanges on how to implement strategies in different contexts. The third and final workshop took place in Nairobi, Kenya, with representatives from the Africa Scout Region. This tailored workshop followed from the successful Regional Scout Conference in Uganda, where already, good work had been undertaken on aligning the Regional Triennial Plan with Vision 2023. What was covered? Day 1 focussed on training, to ensure that all workshop participants were using the same definitions. We looked at how to conduct situational analysis like SWOT and PESTLE. Time was also spent exploring how to identify and define strategic priorities. The role of the Regional Committee and staff of the Regional Support Centres was also explored. Day 2 turned to Vision 2023 and the 6 Strategic Priorities. Participants were encouraged to consider how their Region would contribute. They were challenged to identify the major challenges in their Regions, per priority, what they needed to resolve those challenges and how they would measure success. Day 3 considered different methods for measuring progress and impact as well as drafting example key performance indicators. Participants were asked to then reflect on what they would take back from the workshop to their Regions and what they would do as a result of having participated. What next? Having delivered the Strategy Alignment Workshops, the Strategy Monitoring Group is continuing to participate in discussions on Vision 2023 (The Strategy for Scouting) at Regional Conferences. As well as exploring how Regions can contribute to Vision 2023, Regional Conferences and similar events provide opportunities to identify what NSOs are currently doing in pursuit of Vision 2023 and what more they can do with additional support. In the coming months, we will also finalise and test a new Strategic Planning Toolkit with 6 NSOs to further ensure that WOSM is aligned in working towards our ambitions for 2023.
