AKWAABA! Welcome to Ghana
Over the next one week, a lot of focus will be on Ghana as Scouts arrive from all parts of the Africa and the world for the All Africa Scout Day (ASD) celebrations. This follows the nomination of the Ghana Scouts Association to host this year’s edition of the celebrations. We welcome everyone including our partners and friends who have come to join in the celebrations. Akwaaba!
Marked on 13th day of March each year, the Africa Scout Day is a day when we - Scouts and Scouters - gather with our partners to showcase and celebrate the contributions we have made in the past and that which we continue to make towards the development of the continent of Africa, and indeed the world; and to promote the “spirit of world kinship, cooperation and mutual assistance amongst Scout Organizations within the Region.”
The day was set aside following the resolution CM Res 1607 (LXII)) of the Council of Ministers of the then Organization of African Unity (OAU) – now African Union (AU), meeting in its Sixty-Second Ordinary Session in Addis Ababa, from 21st to 23rd June 1995.
From 9th to 13th March 2016, Scouts are gathering in Accra Ghana for a series of activities to mark this day. Among the events taking place are a meeting of the Africa Scout Committee, an International Youth Camp, a training on Youth Engagement for Good Governance, a meeting of the Africa Scout Foundation Board as well as a dinner reception for the Africa Scout Foundation. The culmination of these different activities will be the main All Africa Scout Day Celebrations scheduled for Saturday 12th March.
To all those who are arriving in Accra, we say “Akwaaba” - welcome! To those who cannot make it to Accra, we wish you happy celebrations wherever you are planning to mark Africa Scout day. Remember that you can share with us stories of how you are celebrating on scout.org or social media using the hashtag #ASD2016. Happy Africa Scout Day.
