Today, the Secretary General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, in consultation with the Europe Regional Scout Committee, announced the appointment of Ms Abir Koubaa as the new Regional Director of the World Scout Bureau Europe Support Centre.

Abir has served with the World Scout Bureau since 2010 and most recently as the Director for Membership Services and Governance, and the Deputy Global Director for Organisational Development. During her tenure, she has significantly contributed to a wide range of projects, including the Global Support Assessment Tool, WOSM Services, the 1st World Scout Education Congress in Hong Kong, and grant management for the flagship Messengers of Peace initiative. Born in 1985, Abir obtained her Master’s degree in International and Development Studies from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and holds Swiss and Tunisian citizenship.

“I’ve great confidence that Abir will build on the outstanding service of David Mckee and will bring a renewed energy in serving the European Scout Region. Her appointment is consistent with the European Scout Region and the World level’s commitment to empowering a new generation of servant leaders in our movement as we advance together towards achieving our Vision 2023.” - Ahmad Alhendawi, WOSM Secretary General.

The selection was completed following a rigorous process in consultation with the Regional Scout Committee where the joint panel of the World Scout Bureau and the Regional Scout Committee made a unanimous recommendation to appoint Abir to the role of Regional Director.

“On behalf of the European Regional Scout Committee, I warmly congratulate Abir as she takes up this important role. We are grateful to David McKee for his dedicated service to the region and we look forward to working with Abir as we accelerate our efforts for achieving Vision 2023.” - Kevin Camilleri, Chairperson, European Regional Scout Committee

"I’m definitely honoured to take on this role and the responsibilities that come with it. I also look forward to working with the regional team, benefiting from David McKee’s experience, and contributing to the future of Scouting in the European Scout Region." - Abir Koubaa

Abir will transition into the role of Regional Director in June, taking on her new responsibilities by the upcoming Regional Scout Conference in Split, Croatia, and building upon the efforts of Mr David Mckee who, after 14 years of outstanding service and contribution as Regional Director, will retire in September.
