The World Scout Academy is a new virtual event hosted by WOSM taking place between June and August 2020 that will offer virtual opportunities for learning and exchange among national Scout leadership and Adults in Scouting. The opening session of the Academy will take place on Saturday, June 20 followed by an eight week programme that will equip participants with the relevant knowledge and skills to successfully lead their organizations within a new environment following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sessions during the Academy will focus on a range of topics, including using technology to connect with local organizations and groups, managing stress and well-being of staff, volunteers and Scouts, key competencies for young people in today’s modern world, and more.
“The worldwide health crisis has altered the landscape in which National Scout Organizations operate, challenging us to adopt new ways of working to continue to offer quality educational programmes through Scouting for young people around the world,” said Craig Turpie, Chairperson, World Scout Committee. “The World Scout Academy is part of an ongoing 100-day emergency response to support our Movement, and offer Scouting’s leadership a forum to discuss how best to navigate this new changing reality.”
"I am pleased to invite the leadership of National Scout Organizations and National Scout Associations to the inaugural session of the World Scout Academy,” said Ahmad Alhendawi, Secretary General of WOSM. “The Academy will create opportunities to bring Member Organizations together, and offer a dynamic lineup of speakers, sessions and workshops to facilitate the exchange of good practices between peers, and ensure that Scouting remains as strong and relevant as ever in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The programme of the Academy will be made available online at learning.scout.org, with a regularly updated schedule of speakers, sessions and workshops.
The opening session of the Academy will be hosted online through a Zoom webinar on Saturday, 20 June from 12:00 to 13:30 GMT and is open to the national leadership of NSOs/NSAs through advance registration. International Commissioners and national leadership are encouraged to share the invitation with key staff, committee members and volunteers in their organization to attend the Academy’s opening session. The webinar will be conducted in English, and simultaneous interpretation will be offered in French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian.
The opening session will feature panel discussions with WOSM and NSO leadership highlighting exciting examples of how Member Organizations and WOSM have adapted their work during the evolving global health crisis. The various panels will also include an opportunity for questions and answers with participants, as well as other online engagement opportunities.
