The World Organization of the Scout Movement has been awarded the Charity in Hope medal from the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul International in recognition of Scouting’s contribution and service to humanity.

The medal is the highest distinction awarded by the Society and is only the second time the honour has been presented in the organisation’s 186-year history. World Scout Committee Chairperson, Craig Turpie was on hand to attend a ceremony in Oporto, Portugal, last week to receive the award on behalf of the Movement.

“The conferring of this award from the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul International to the World Organization of the Scout Movement is in recognition of the inspiring actions that Scouts around the world undertake in service to humanity, to help those most in need,” said Craig. “This Charity in Hope medal is for the more than 50 million Scouts who are creating a positive impact in their communities.”

The Society is an international voluntary organisation of the Catholic church which through the medal recognises organisations that provide humanitarian and social services to individuals and communities in need. Rotary International received the award last year.
